Default 1987 Porsche 944 cooling fans

Hi

Today the temperature gage started showing the engine running a little on the hot side. I later discovered on of the wires going to the fans was broken. I repaired it but it seems that the fans take a long time coming on. It is not something that I ever really noticed when they come on. Is this normal or is there something else that I should be looking for. When the engine is started the fans do not come on, after taking it for a short drive, when I came back the fans started after in drove up.

Any suggestion?

Thanks!

Ed

Fans only come on when the engine warms up. Or when you turn on the A/C.

The fans on the post 85.5 cars (yours) are supposed to be two speed fans. Come on half speed then go to full as the engine temp rises.

How did the wire break?

As SoCal said, fans only come on normally after the car warms up. Not initially.

Default Electric fans

Hi

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I'm not sure how the wire got broken, but it was broken where it goes into the hard rubber boot, I figure it just broke form years of being bent in the angle it was bent to get to the plug in at the radiator.

Thanks again.

Edward
