Default Any 944 S2 strut gurus out there?

Ok, so I bought a pair of new Bilstein front strut inserts to replace my 91 S2 Sach strut internals.
The ad said this about fitment:

89-91 Porsche 944 ALL ALL
Fit Note For Models with OE sealed strut assemblies, extensive modification is required. Instructions for modifications are included with units. 944 - These units are only applicable to vehicles equipped with OE SACHS Sealed Struts. Location : Front

I confirmed the old struts were Sachs...had the sticker on it. I removed the spring and end cap (which I thought were threaded but were just pressed on). The end cap on the new Bilsteins are threaded.

I read the modification notes and it suggests the inserts fit snuggly into the old tube (after I clean it out etc.). Well the diameter of the replacement Bilstein (1 1/2) is WAY smaller than the main tube on the original Sachs strut (1 7/8). Not only that, same with the threaded aluminum cap on the new Bilsteins. There is no way these two were designed to go together.

Here's the kicker, Auto Parts Warehouse, were I bought the Bilsteins back in Dec are no longer advertising strut inserts by anybody for a 944. I'm hoping I'm missing something I am not getting or seeing but I don't see how. Is it possible there were two different OEM Sach struts for a 944S2?

Unfortunately, you have the insets for the '82-'86 944 models which are equipped with the replaceable inserts and not the sealed units as on the S2.

I have a set of Konis (front struts with springs and rear shocks) from my 968 that I'll give you a good deal on. PM me if interested.
