Default Updated water pump

I am updating my 85.5 to the new water pump. When the botton half of the belt cover is on, the idler pulley rubs it pretty good. Do you have to cut the cover to the shape of this roller? You definitely have to cut out two holes for the belt shield posts (which I did) and have to move the pulley base hole over (check).

Are you sure it is the waterpump pulley is rubbing? To do the update, you do have to modify the half of the cover that goes against the engine.

I have already replaced it - you do have to take all belts and covers off. When going to the updated water pump, you get a relocated and enlarged idler roller and a belt shield (metal strip). My new pulley is rubbing the old cover after going back together with it.

Yes, the idler pulley is rubbing against the engine side belt cover. The big metal pulley is okay - it is the little plastic idler roller. I already moved the hole over so it will bolt on, but when I mount it, it rubs. I can either add spacers to move it out (where it might rub on the outside cover) or cut a hole in the engine side cover the same size as the OD of the roller, allowing clearance.

Make sense?

When I last did one of those, I cut holes to clear both the waterpump and a clearance hole at the idler, slightly larger than the idler OD, on the engine side. Never had a rubbing problem.

That is the missing link. Thank you.

I believe the cover needs to be ground. When I upgraded mine it came with a factory instruction sheet. Mind you it wasent very clear, but then again none of porsche's instructions are. good luck.
