Two easy questions-Early 944
If someone has a factory set of books could you possibly help me out?
1. I'm replacing my toasted electric antenna on my 83 with a later model I pulled from an 85.5. My existing wires were internal to the antenna and the newer unit is a plug in type. I know the existing red wire is always hot but what are the black an white ones wired to. One of them I assume activates power "on" up. The unit case is externally grounded so what does the 3rd wire do?
2. What is the R-12 capacity of the AC system.
Hope someone here has done the antenna swap from and early 944.
Thanks,
Steve

I wasn't aware that the 85.5 cars still had power antennas, but FWIW all the antenna wiring except the external ground strap should be routed to the back of the stereo receiver. The large black coaxial cable is the actual antenna.
If you're using a Blaupunkt, they conveniently have a wiring diagram sticker on the housing that's pretty handy. If not, you should check the manual for your current receiver and match up the wiring harness to the antenna wires.

I guess I just assumed it was a later model because the difference in the cases. My original is the metal case Hirshman and the take-out unit is a plastic snap case Hirshman, same size, just different wire schematic but still 3-wire. Yeah I forgot the 85.5+ 944 went to the embedded antenna. My HU is a Pioneer so it just has the usual blue wire to trigger the antenna up relay. The PO did not connect it to anything. The new plug at the antenna has two blades horizontal and one blade vertical. I could always try the smoke test but don't want to damage anything. All I know is that the existing red is always hot, and both white and black are not grounded.
