Default More Bosal exhaust questions

I have a few questions about the BOSAL cat-back exhaust for the NA, such as the one being sold by Paragon.

1) This is the stock exhaust, right? Is it true that it sounds exactly like a good-condition stock 944 exhaust (deep, nice, but not too loud!)?

2) I searched the archives and found that the finish on the tip isn't quite as nice as stock. Is this true? Can the tip be replaced?

3) Would it be possible to JETHOT coat (or similar?) the exhaust so that it lasts forever?

The Bosal is not OE, but it's as close as they come. The OE is quite a bit more expensive.

The tip is not as original, but I don't think it looks bad. You could certainly have a nicer tip welded on, but it's not a slip-on.

I think you'll find that coating the exhaust would be cost prohibitive. It would require a full blasting before coating. The only thing that lasts forever (arguably) is stainless steel. To make the Bosal last nearly a lifetime would require you coat the inside and outside, and then perform periodic maintenance. Again, cost prohibitive.

Good Luck!

Something I just found out from an exhaust supplier which surpised me.

He stated that just because you have bought a stainless steel exhaust it will not necessary last a lifetime as some manufacturers use mild steel welds on the baffles and that will go over time, which is what has happened to my exhaust system!

So ask the question, does the manufacturer use SS in there welds.

I bought a Bosal cat-back a few months ago. The tip is slightly smaller than OE. Just recently the brazing stuff that holds on the shiny tip came loose. Now it rattles and it sounds really bad. But it should be easy to fix, and otherwise it sounds just like the OE one.

Thanks for all the replies.

One more question, what size tip can be put on the bosal? Any good or suggested ones?

I believe the outlet from the rear can is ~2.25". Anything that will mate up to that would be fine. Please, try to keep it under 4"... otherwise, we'll be forced to heckle you and throw rice.

Oh god not 4" ..

I think 2.5" is fine(!!).. that's what the stock one is, isn't it?
Any suggestions on who makes a good looking tip for the 944?

For example, would this Borla ProXS one be sufficient?

Here are the specs:
id#20153
Universal small oval tip with clamp
Fits thru 2.5"
height 2.5" x width 3.5"
Length = 4.0"

Not sure - your best bet would to be finding a local shop that might carry them to match it up for fit and looks.

Let's not forget the Bosal lifetime warranty for an extra US$20, either. BTDT. I benefited from that one five years down the road after plunking down the US$500. Just another consideration.

As for the tips, the chrome factory tip is readily available for cheap from the dealer. Any decent exhaust shop should be capable of adapting the Bosal tip to the new factory replacement.
