Default Spark Plugs

So, this weekend, i am gonna do new spark plugs, but i had a question for all of you.... Which to use.... i don't wanna be spending like 7 bucks a plug on the 4 pt platinums, but i do want something reliable and good... also, i have heard rumors about gap sizing on the 944S... anyone know what the correct gap is?

first of all platinum 4's are trash don't even consider them, GET Bosch WR5DC with a gap of .7 to 1 mm and torque to 25 to 20 NM.

Jonas, I reccommend going to Auto Zone or Kragen to take advantage of the .99 cent spark plugs I'm using them and they are great. THese are actually the original copper plugs designed to run in our car anyways! DOn't go platinum I didn't have enough spark in my car while I was running platties.

I think the factory spec plug for the entire 944 series is Bosch Super (copper) WR7DC, at least for 87 944S, 87 Turbo, and 89 Turbo. No need for anything more fancy than that. The Bosch Platinums can get the tips burned off. The WR7DC are available at most chain car parts stores. I havent heard any gap differences for the S over other models either.

Spark plug tool is located in your factory tool bag with your spare tire.

Basic rule of thumb, If you don't have a torque wrench, hand tighten the plug, then half turn with wrench.

Just double checked to make sure I wasnt spewing BS.

87 Owners manual, Tech Specification Handbook, and Factory Service Manual (pg 28-101) for the 16V motors all state WR7DC for the 87-88 S motor. WR5DC are for the S2.

Start the plugs by hand (use a socket and extention), then tighten with a torque wrench or ratchet (dont over tighten). If you insert and start turning the plug with the wrench/ratchet you always run a small risk of cross threading a steel plug base into an aluminum head (= bad...).
