Default Crazy engine swap idea...

I'm bored at work, and I've just had a crazy thought. Not that I'm even remotely considering this, but I've seen several VW engine swaps out there for our cars, and I was curious if anyone had every given any thought to the Jetta TDI engine? Yeah, I know it's a crazy idea, and a crap load of things would have to be changed in the fuel system and all that, but the torque would make for a very fun car, I think. I also must admit I know next to nothing about diesels or VW engines, either for that matter. Just getting started in the Porsche world.

Maybe I just need a . Lol.

I'd take a VR6 over a diesel..The newer TDI's have an extremely high fuel pump pressure requirement on the cam necessitating a Castrol oil that is only available at the dealer for about 30.00/qt. It's made only by Castrol for those engines...count me out! thanks, Tiger 03447.

Yeah, that's a bit much! I remember working in a parts store years ago, and a guy had swapped a much older TDI into a diesel rabbit. He did a very clean job, and it sounded really cool. Not even really sure what kind of power output the thing had, but it looked fun!

There is a guy on TDIclub that is in the process of doing a conversion. Check it out. http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=341596

Very wrong information here concerning the oil. The oil needs to be VW 507 spec oil. There are plenty of companies that make it. The 507 spec is a low ash oil that helps protect the diesel particulate filter on the newer TDI's. I buy 5 liters for $55 for my TDI. I would not say it is readily available at most places but it can be found or ordered.

Dear Mike c: That is what our local dealer charges for the Castrol. Only one other company locally sells it for about 20-25.00/qt. This is what I was told by the dsealer and Castrol. what other companies make this oil? Not any of the majors that I know of, and I've called a more than a few...perhaps we're talking two different oils here? Please let me know where to tell my customers where they can get it. Everybody needs a break for their wallet...I just know that I can't supply them...Thanks, Tiger 03447
