Default Does this sound right???

Hey guys Im in the process of rebuilding my 85.5 NA so far I've replaced and installed new shocks and springs and on my way to replace the water pump. i did the timing belt without changing the water pump which was really dumb of me i shouldve just did that job when i was already in there. But since I have to go back in this whining sound has been a concern of mine whether if the belt is too tight. I've done research and know that there is a natural whine the makes but im unsure if this is too loud and If i must loosen it just a bit.

That sounds more "dentist's drill" than the supercharger like whine I hear from a too-tight balance shaft belt.

If a new timing belt is put on too tightly it can easily pooch the water pump bearing and seal, can probably break the cam snout too. If the cam belt is stupid tight it'll wreck stuff. I dunno what that sounds like, never tried it.

This is the sound it makes when I loosened it. Before it was louder cause I had it too tight. Im afraid if I loosen it too much it might skip a tooth and then gameover from there.

You should be able to twist the balance belt 180 degrees with your fingers on the longest run. It'll look like it's too loose but that's how it's supposed to be. I did mine with a 90 degree twist and it had a slight whine until I loosened it this way and then it was fine.
