Yep,
944S is ITS legal at 100 to 150 LBS more than 8v car. Right now the 944 is almost competitive. 944S should be pretty strong and a potential front runner. It will still be fun to race mid to the back of the pack. A 944 8v car could be made very fast and run in the front pack, but it probably takes more bucks than you guys are considering. Don't let that stop you from prepping the car for ITS. Don't worry just have fun with it.

If you were west coaster's I'd direct you to 944-spec. Are there any 944-cup races in Fla? Could prep fro ITS and run 944-cup. That would be really fun!

M - i was hoping we could get some sort of spec setup. are you allowed to strip interior and things like that for spec races? the interior is partly stripped already, so we just have to put the engine back together and modify the suspension. we pit crewed for Nort Northam here in florida here a few years ago with his ITS 924S, got 2nd in class, behind a 944. we feel that the drivers that rented norts car sucked (plus they were old and overweight (no offense to those a little more mature or stocky)) so we think that we'll be pretty competitive once we get the car together, get licenses, and get rolling! man are we excited!

ACK, how did I miss this in my backyard. Erau, congrats, if I'd been paying attention I'd have grabbed that. When you crew'd for Nort, what race was it? I have known Nort for a while, and we usually run against him in enduro stuff (Longest night a few years in a row and the 12 hour at Homestead last year), so I was probably just down the pits from you =)

Good luck with the car, if you get frustrated, let me know, that was my dream situation!

hehe, it was longest night at moroso in 01 i beleive. good race, seths green 944 took first. he came and did both our brake changes for us! when we get this together we will all drive and pit for each other. maybe get a few people to help us in the pits, but we'll be a pretty tight crew. nort's a cool guy, i've gone to see him in orl. a few times and at the last rolex 24 since the race. one day we'll get a SOFLA gtg together, and i'll make it how bout next summer, eh? can't wait till i get out of school, and i'll be down there for good. man, i wanna be out and racing NOW!

LOL - yeah, we were a Miata (red #23 iirc) running that year, doing very well until we spun a rod at 3:00am...unfortunately they had a spare everything but motor. The next year we brought spare motor/tranny combo and managed to replace the whole motor/tranny after spinning a rod bearing and still took 3rd in class(but I think still behind Nort again iirc...that was the year his people took first if I'm not mistaken). Unfortunately the car/team owner died at Pocono the next year and we haven't run since, but I crewed a 240Z at the 12 hour at Homestead that SCCA is replacing longest night with....

Actually, thinking about it, I think the year you are talking about IS the year we replaced the drivetrain and took 3rd, as that's the year the green car took first, I think. It was the year before in 2000 that we spun and had to drop out (we were 2nd at the time and a pit stop ahead of the leader)

The 944 Cup Series cars can be set up to SCCA ITS, ITA - PCA stock H, I classes and some POC classes. I believe the SE region runs under the wings of either NASA or PBOC. Check out their SE Region site at: http://www.fiberwerks.com/944CupSE.htm

So if you go ITS, you can also race in the cup series. Sebring is one of the courses scheduled for the SE region series. 944S's cannot compete in the 944 cup, but they have started another cup series for 944 turbos/S cars to compete in.

Check out
944-Spec.com

The full rules are here. Basicly you can strip anything that does not make the car go, but have more limited engine rules than SCCA.
