Default tires and traction

My tires have about 1 inch of tread-depth left and my car has terrible wet road traction. Any decent acceleration on wet roads will loosen the tires, especially while turning. Is this normal? Is it an indication that it is time for new or different tires, or shocks? I have BF Goodrich Touring T/A 205/60/15's on it and as far as I know the shocks are original and at 140k miles.

Along those lines, I like the look of fat tires, especially on the back. What is the largest/recommended tires that will fit and perform acceptably for this 85.5 944 n/a?

1" of tread depth??? You runnin' swampers on ur 944?

As far as fat tires on the back, I ran 225's all around and there was lots of room left on my '84. People are running some of the later offset OEM Porsche rims with 245's in the back with no problems.
