jees Tom, that sucks.
so far on this board all I've mostly heard about is 944 breakins, not stolen cars. kind of scary. you sure are taking it well, i guess it comes with age.
anyway i think im gonna start using my steering wheel lock again when i park in public places.. might as well, if they wanna cut my steering wheel.. oh well.

oh and the wheels, i know you replied to "simon" but i didnt actually ask you about em, although i am interested in 7x16" 5spoke 968 style wheels if you do end up sellin' em i guess ill buy all 4, and i can pick em up
oh and ERAU - your car is early offset, but if you want the 6/8x16s i have and wanna use some crazy spacers or something i could sell you those.

anyway good luck finding your car.. how cruel is it that after you get it all tweaked it gets stolen.
97xray you sure that S2 on the uconn campus isnt his? i dont remember seeing that many 944s there EVER...

yes, to use them i know i'd have to use spacers, i want factory wheels and am willing to go to the spacer extent to make it work. what wheels do you have simon? depending on what they are i may be interested. i'm going after 5-spoke designs though, 964/968/993 styles preferred.

it's a good thing most things in life are replaceable.

i have these factory wheels:
http://www.wheelenhancement.com/c25spoke.htm

i just bought a set of these wheels from a rennlister (i havent used them at all)
6x16 fronts and 8x16 rears, problem is he had spacers on his and they wont fit over my dust caps.. but they should fit an early offset or even any earlier year dust cap just fine

so if Tom has the 7x16 and 8x16 variety that should be perfect for me.

anyway, we'll see what happems with Tom's car before making any deals I guess, unless you wanna just buy mine outright? problem is they cost like 800-1200 bucks to buy from wheel enhancement
dealing with rennlisters is a bit cheaper... email me.

Ok here goes. I got a rocket scientist as an adjuster at geico. she told me there is no value to my motor work. i will wait until she gives me a number, thenI will pull out backup on Andy's recent purchase of a car with 25k more miles on it than mine. What did you pay Andy, $9,500?

I will then add the $500 he spent on tires (mine were $1000 from tire rack), forget the rims for the moment, add the $1000 he spent on shocks and an alignment, and if i go easy and add say half the $6,000 i spent on the motor. That gets me up to $14,000 plus tax which brings the total to $15,200 before i start nit picking. At $15,200 it only, and i stress only cost me about $11,000 to own the car three years and 18k miles. that means i am screwed out of about $5,000 because of the theft.

Tony I will go on to the pca site for the appraisal. thanks.

I am toying with something like a miata. i saw a 96 advertised with 31k and the guy was asking 7k. if i get that for say $5500 i should be able to unload it for $4k in a few years. then there is my uncle's wifes 90 mr2 auto. if i get that for between 1500 and 2000, dump another 5-700 in it i have nice train transportation that i can autocross.

then there is the 968 with 49k that the guy is asking 21k for near me. i know the car is mint from when i bought his rims. do i buy that and park it at the train....

there is also the bmw 3 series convertible. there should be deals on them now that the summer is over. but that is $15k.

oh yeah, also, the mechanic that rebuilt my motor said he will call me if any of his clients want to sell an "excellent" NA i told him i dont need the extra power for my drive to the train. he just brokered an S with about 75k miles.

What is the boards opinion of an S2 with 200k miles, never hit etc. There is an ad at cars.com the guy is asking 6k. how much guys?

sorry about the length.

hmm, I do not want to be the bearer of bad new's but to get $15k out of an insurance company for the s2 would be increadable... I thinking you will see more like $10K if you lucky.

Tom, whatever you decide to get, putting a few grand to the side for an everyday ****ter will pay for itself and anxiety levels will certainly drop. I made the decision about a year ago and it’s been great not having to worry where you park, who you park next to, how close someone is driving to you, parking under a tree, etc. A 944 makes a horrible every day car anyway IMO.

Oh and may I suggest you take the ultimate plunge and go turbo. It would be nice to have another 951 rennlister in the area.

Hummm....

Had a 944 or 951 as a daily diver for 8 years now, best daily driver I have ever had.

Hate to tell you Tom, but I paid $8700--right around book value I think. I would get one of those PCA appraisals...!

And screw 200k!! Can you say "worn-out"? You dont want to dump another ten large into a car with all those miles on it!!

Sorry to hear about your loss. It's never fun. I've had two cars stolen over the years. In going forward, have you thought about horses for courses? A good beater for the railway station plus a p-car for fun? I use a 1993 Mazda MX-3 for transportation when I don't take the subway, value about $5k. Cheap and fun to drive. The p-car is only for special occasions, i.e. the track.

One thing is for sure, you've got lots of pictures showing the cars condition!

Take 'em for what their worth

If it were me, I'd be pissed, and also I would get the 968. Good luck!
