Best easy way to paint calipers?
I really want to dress my calipers up. I want to paint them red. I've seen the kind that you brush on from tweeks and I've heard of people taping them off and spraypainting them with special paint. What are your opinions on the best method of doing this?

I tried the caliper paint on my old coupe, and they were like a drunk hookup at 2AM-nice from 25 feet, but you'll regret it in the morning. I think they look cheesy. I got rid of mine and put Prospeed powder coated ones on and they were much, much nicer. I say wait until you can afford Big Reds, or find someone to powdercoat them with proper decals.
It's just one more thing that the PCA guys will snicker behind your back at the next meet. I got that anyway with my 'little Reds' from Prospeed, but they did fool some people with the drilled rotors I added.

I painted my calipers and drums on my 78 924. It is dolomite grey and I wanted to add some color to the car, I painted them yellow. I carefully brush painted the front calipers and spray painted the rear drums. Its purely a visual modification and yellow dosn't signfy impersonating the big red upgrades. It took two cans of Yellow VHT caliper paint and looks fine. If I take the calipers off to do work sometime I will probaly spray paint them but I had just bled my brakes several times to get the pedal to firm up and didn't feel like doing it agian. To prep it I used a wire brush to remove the built up dirt and discolored rusty looking spots (the main reason I wanted to do this in the first place) and then rubbed the area with steal wool and cleaned them off with TSP. It worked fine, looks good and hasn't had any signs of damage yet.

Ian,
I know a shop in Cumming that can powder coat them for you. They did mine, and they look fantastic.
They only charged about $75 for the pair to media blast (cleans them), then powder coated black. These were my TurboS calipers I just bought.
Anyway, it would have your car down for a while, but if you want it done right, it's the only way to go.
Let me know if interested. See ya...

How 'bout that new Duplicolor Metalcast paint?? I am thinking about trying that on mine. Has that anodized look. Pretty cool.

Yep...there is heat resistant clear coat....can't remember the maker, but it doesn't work well. I used it over my silver engine paint and it turned yellow after about 20 heat cycles on the cam cover. Now I have to strip it off and repaint. Run....don't walk away from the stuff.

car slave-I like the aluminum look myself. I painted mine with a high heat aluminum color paint. I couldn't evenly clean the calipers enough so that it looked good. If you get them blasted, it might work better. I just took mine apart, wire brushed them, cleaned/masked and sprayed.
If I could have anything I wanted-it would be the gold anodized color of the current Brembo's (on the 350Z).

Brian Perry (AKA Perry951) did an awesome in detail write up about this earlier this year. Do a search. He use to have a link to the write up with details on his website. He used the powder coat method.
