Yes, I did install them, but they were laying around on the carpet, and they might be screwed up. When I did install it, it just cranked, didn't fire.

Sorry, but no. All you really need to do is line up the edge of the chip that has the semi-circle notch with the matching notch in the socket. I just wasn't paying attention because I'd had a few chips I was swapping in and out, and an upside-down label caught me off guard.
