What coil are you running? have you ever ohmed it out or war it ever replaced? Coils can overheat and deliver weak spark and so when you really load the ignition system it doesn't have the juice to connect the spark plug circuit and ignite the fuel. It also stands to reason that as the coil keeps overheating it would eventually die all together. I've seen this in older american v8s. MSD makes a cheap one I've had for years and it seems to run fine in my car. swapping that would be an easy test.
