Well I can't say to much on the subject. You should never got into a car drunk. You obviously did and now this is the punishment.

Andy... "Alex"...

I'd like to blame that on not enough sleep, but it's probably just me getting old. They say that the hearing is the second thing to go... I forget what the first one is...

My friend asked me to stay, she knew I had alot to drink, at the time I felt fine. I really did feel fine. I don't remember pulling out of the parkinglot, I came out of a blackout about an hour or so later and about 20 miles away from there. I was jut stitting in the middle of the road and didn't know what was going on. For fear someone called the cops, I freaked out and floored it, I was doing about 80 and didn't know where I was. I missed a corner and took a tree in the driver's door, took off and found my way to my exgirlfriend's house. I was going to stay there, but noone was home, for fear she would think I was staking her or something weird, I left. I made it about 2 blocks and my front half shaft let go on my Corrado. I sat there and drank until the cops showed.

Andy, you say you got yourself into alcohol but couldn't get yourself out. But you did get yourself out. It might have taken the help and support of others, but fact of the matter is, it was YOU that did it. From the outside looking in, it seems like once a person realizes that they are responsible for what they do, miraculous things can happen. Continue to believe in yourself, make an effort to do the "right thing", don't try and take shortcuts in life, and that two years will pass soon enough.

Also, don't sell yourself short by complaining about the sentence. Life isn't fair, but its the folks that don't worry about the "fairness" of life that usually get ahead. Judging from your efforts to gain sobriety, I expect you have the ability to go as far as you want in life. Its just up to you to do it. Overcoming obstacles is a part of the deal. You have shown that you can overcome a big one, so others that you will face shouldn't challenge your belief in yourself.

I have gotten to meet a number of the Ohio 944 Rennlisters, and I have to say that I am impressed with the lot of you. There aren't many times I wish KC was closer to Ohio, but you guys do make me jealous of the comraderie and support you give each other, and I hope I get the chance to spend more time with you guys.

Regards,

As has been said before, congrats on getting sober. Just do what you've got to do, and you can put this behind you.

For the record, I think current DWI laws are too harsh - but the law is the law.

After reading your Posts, Andy...It sounds like you're on the right path. Stick with it. And I will agree with you on the point of 'inconsistant punishment' My sister spent 4 years in prison for doing something a man did in the next county and got a 6 month suspended sentence.
Ends up the Judge and DA just wanted to make a political statement.
There should be more consistancy in the courts, I agree. Unfortunalty, there isnt much you can do accept deal with it and not let it sour you further.

I am proud of him for becoming sober as he should be of himself BUT how are the laws too harsh? My store used to be located right next to a bar, there were times I had to call people cabs and pay for it both ways because I couldnt in good conscience give them the keys. Those customers may have hated me for that moment but they always came back. I bet Andy wishes he had someone who had done the same for him.

If punishment does not deter the crime then either the punishment is too light or the criminal is too dumb.

For the record: though I lived in England in high school and drank and smoked myself into stupors many a time (think chasing a huge butterfly, probably did not exist, now that I think about it), NEVER no not EVER have I driven a car after even ONE drink. If my wife and I go out, one of us drinks and one drives. Other people's driving habits are too bad to have to add alcohol to the equation, I need all the sober I can get to dodge idiots and ******** (that how I refer to the general population driving automobiles).

Andy, glad you are sober, I hope things look better in the future. It is amazing how people you dont know can become your friends and how others will judge you. I dont condone what you did but that is the past and it sounds like the future will be much better.

Grasping for any excuse to not accept personal responsibility will just continue your self destructive behavior.

If alcoholism was a disease I would get it from drinking from the same can of beer as you.

These "informed doctors" are nothing more than hacks looking to cash in on the insurance and the propensity of humans to externalize their problems. They have as much a personal problem as you do. Even AA is a farce.

Don't drink and drive.

Like I said, I couldn't get myself out, it took rehab, jail, AA, and GOD to get me here. Thanks, for the support guys, a few hours ago I was wondering why I'm still sober, it doesn't matter to the courts. The thing is, it does matter to me. I posted alot of stuff here because I had to remember where I came from and why I don't want to go back. I think I'll be hitting a meeting on friday, obviously if I'm ranting about thing I can't change, it's time for a little AA.

Just like cancer right? It is declared a dissease, anything that has symptoms, side effects, and is deadly. Oh yeah, progessive too. Do a search. Like I said, those excuses, WERE my reasoning and how I got there. BTW, it's irreversable too.

lol, my buddie just called to ee how court went, I told him. He said, "geeze, can they screw you any harder?" I said, "well, no, but it can't get any worse. " I guess that's looking on the bright side?

Andy, congrats on getting sober. Too bad you had to go that far to hit bottom. Just keep remembering how BAD things WERE, and much better things will get. We are a community, and if there is anything we can do to help...ask.

I think that some people take the things you say as you are putting the blame on outside factors, but if you know that you are an alcoholic you just know that you can't ever have even one drink, stick with it and don't forget it.

Everything that has happened (including these previous posts) are history now. Nothing you can do, learn and go. Those of us who know Andy know he has it back on track. Keep the faith, Andy.
