My 86 944 N/A timing belt seems to be wearing against the "distributor cover" http://groups.msn.com/JamesCarPictures I pushed the belt back on the cam gear but I'm wondering if it is going to creep forward? Any ideas?

Take a look at the rollers to see if one is too close to the block. As I recall they have different offsets.
I've seen a timing belt rubbing against the block after re-assembling the rollers incorrectly.
Good luck,

Check to see if your cam pulley is loose. There is a single bolt in the center under the rotor.
The next "guide" directing the belt onto the cam pulley is the water pump pulley. If the water pump has been rebuild crooked then this can cause the timing belt to move off of the cam pulley.
Last is the tensioner itself. The flange on the tensioner has to be toward the engine. Then this might be spaced out from with a washer under it or even have a bent stud that is letting the belt move out.
