Cool DME experts please?

Hi guys

I have an 84 944 with the early type DME with the screws at each corner. I would like to get my hands on a late type, which I believe is the ML3.1? Preferably with the 28 pin EPROM socket. This is so that I can run the Rogue MAF tune, or to use as parts for the Rogue ECU upgrade.
I have searched for hours on all kinds of sites, but no success yet. I want to know will any Motronic 3.1 DME do the job, like say from a BMW or other model 944 etc. Is the only difference just the chip?
What part numbers would be usable? or what part numbers came on the Motronic ML3.1? how can I tell which version DME it is from the part number, as ones I have seen on ebay do not say, just have a bosch part number sticker
Thanks in advance!

Ok, Thanks guys. Yes I thought that about the AFM, but I hope to change to MAF so shouldn't be a problem.
Anyone know if a BMW fitted Motronic 3.1 would also do? these are a whole lot more abundant and cheaper if they were.
