oil cooler seals done (with pics)! painted beer pong table
woot! woot!
finished my first "real" work on the car--replaced the oil cooler seals and the sway bar bushings (and some water hoses).
man, the top bolt on the housing was a PITA, until i realized i could get at it from above with a uni joint and 3 inch extension. in the end i didn't take the housing out, just took it off and put the new gasket in. that darn heat shield makes things impossible down there. i don't see how i could have gotten the thing out (i left one cooler line attached). there's some small line that goes across the area (air conditioning?) that made it impossible to get the cooler assembly out from below (maybe with both external cooler lines detached?).
also, i didn't have the correct oil pressure relief valve alignment tool, so i took a chance and aligned the housing with the valve. the pressure seems to act the same (4.5 bar off idle, 2 ~ 2.5 bar at idle after warming up), so i'm assuming everything was fine.
here's the new bushings/sway bar hardware:
on the car, with new stainless bolts (before tightening the bolt on the A-arm):
the old oil cooler seals: they don't look too bad: maybe i jumped the gun!
celebrating with the neighbors (i live in Collegetown), painting their beer pong table (i hope this isn't inappropriate). obviously, they weren't celebrating the oil cooler seal replacement, but their impending senioritis.
i'll let you know if i totally botched it and i suddenly have massive leaks or a milkshake.
thanks to Clark's garage--that guy rules!
