Default Scratched Inner Hub

I'm in the process of changing my brakes all around and the front wheel bearings. I found the inner hubs pretty scratched up. I used a brass punch to remove the races. Am I right in thinking these are unusable?

Yep. An expensive mistake, especially on 88/89 model when i scratched one of mine. Now i pull the hub and run it by the shop to pull ans seat the bearings for a few bucks.

Not sure how it happened as I used a brass punch. Guess I need to clean the axle off and take a good look. I think I can get one inexpensively. There's a parts yard near by with two early models.

Dear snb: You might want to go by AutoZone and rent their bearing/seal installer..zero cost...might prevent this pblm in future..jus sayin..

Tiger, the scratches were either there before I removed the races or happened upon removal. I have a bearing/seal driver kit, but I don't see how it helps for removal. Maybe it'd work for the smaller outer race.

There's a technique I use - with the MIG welder, put a bead on the bearing race. As the weld cools, it will contract and shrink the bearing race so it drops out.

I'll make a video doing it the next time I get a chance.
