I agree- DME relay- They get hot anyway, and the added heat cant be good. I have carried a spare for over 6 months now.\

May also wanna check the main grounds for loose/ missing bolts- they cause all sorts of weird stuff.. I di dthis over the weekend.. again!

Beef up the grounds. as my mom used to say (It Couldnt hoit!) Thanks again Mr. Vicious!!!

Default UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE

OK I replace the DME relay. Now it dies even more, about 6 times in a 5 mile trip.

Now it seems to want to die @ idle. It is also very hard to restart, lots of cranking. This morning it took like 2 seconds to fire up, after it died in the driveway, it took about 60 seconds to start again.

It does have the "wandering idle" I can watch the tach and MPG/Vacumn gauge. Runs up to about 1100, then down to 900, kinda slow, not all over the place. Make sense?

Fuel filter just change the weekend, could the be crud loose in there now? How about Fuel Pressure Dampner or Regulator......

What am I missing here???? Ask questions......

Hummmmm This car sure like atterntion

Check the connections for the speed and reference sensors. They are at the rear of the top of the engine. They get alot of heat and become brittle. If they unplug, or shake out, you will have a problem.
Also, just because you replaced the DME relay doesn't mean the new one is good. Try another.

OK I'll go with a new coil..WTH looks old... Hello Paragon??!!

Now then, looking at the senors on the back of the engine, The black Molex type plug looks and feels good and tight.

BUT, there is one right above the neg/ground post on the firewall (looks like a resistor and is mounted in a circular bracket) it looks to be old worn and generally out of place and uncovered. There are 2 parts to this one, a black plastic part that kinda looks like a connector, but isn't, then about a 1/2 inch down the wire is this exposed resistor looking thing.

Also in this area is a 2 wire Molex connector that is not connected to anything. It is by the resistor thing towards the drivers side.

On the way back from this "shake down" ride it did die 3 more times twice on bumps and once just cruising.

Could be the solder joints on the transistor that fires your ignition system. It is the large one on the edge of one of your DME circuit boards. This happened to me and I had the same symptoms as you. To help stay on the road until I had a chance to fix it, I carried a jack handle with me in the car and whacked the floor board after the car died. A 25 watt soldering iron and a solder sucker set me back around $15. No more stalls.

James-sorry to hear about the trouble. Too bad since it should be so much more fun to drive now that it was the other day.

Yeh really,

What is the resistor looking connector up on the firewall? You looked at it the other day, asking if I had moved the neg batt cable. I think you said it ( this resistor looking thing) was broke????

ME!! j/k..

Sid you KNEW I wouldnt let THAT go by!!

eliminate the coil possibility by installing a new (returnable) one..

Did your DME ever get a complete resolder?? I keep forgetting about that possibility due to it was one of the first things I EVER did on my car..

Good Luck!
