Question life expectancy of a 944 timing belt from AGE standpoint.
What is the general opinion of the life expectancy of a 944 timing
belt from an AGE standpoint, not a mileage standpoint?

I own an '87 944 NA with a 18k that has the original belt in it.

I've heard anything from two to five years. Either way, if it's the original belt, change it.

I agree that it should be changed, but for the future, what age
limiation should you put on a belt for a car that is driven very few
miles a year.

Thanks for the input.

I wouldn't go too far past 3 years. Belts are cheap, valves and pistons ( and cams in my case) are not.

I wouldn't even start the engine without changing that belt if I were you.
