Any Corrado slc will be a VR6 unless someone swapped it out.
Here is a pic of my Vr6 to see what they look like.

Well thanks for the information... I might just go ahead and call this guy on the car. I'm a little worried and will be quite cautious for 1 main reason, the car seems a lot cheaper than anythign else I'd ever seen at asking price of $2500. And since that's the top end of our budget you can see why I'm not looking at anything newer in the VW line.
On the bright side, there's also an 87 GTI for sale locally and I've never heard anything but good about those cars ~ so that's my backup plan. It just doesn't look as good.
Thanks again for the info guys..

Just make sure that the GTI is a german-built one and not a mexican-built car. The german-built cars are bulletproof. However, VW's reputation for questionable reliability stems directly from the cars that they built in Mexico in the 80's (and there are a few even worse PA-built Rabbits).
Unfortunately, I forget when they started building them there. I quickly found an online VIN calculator for you (http://home.planet.nl/~koni1691/vindecoder.htm) which should tell you, assuming it's accurate...
Hope this helps...

A Corrado for $2500??? I'd check it bumper to bumper for any damage, rust, etc. They sell them up here for anywhere between $8000CDN for a well-maintained G60 to $19000 for a fully sorted VR6 street monster. Right now, that's the only thing holding me back from buying one. I've tuition to pay for ya know!!!
87 GTI is also a good alternative, but if you want some really good power to weight numbers any 85-92 Jetta/Golf with a VR6 swaped in would do...

I heard those cars have a heater core problem where it can explode causing serious burns to your legs. I remember now I read it in a lemonade guide.

That was also the case for 85-92 Jettas and Golfs. We used to have an 88 Jetta and never had a problem with the heater core before we brought it in just to be on the safe side. The same problem appeared in Corrados only because it was developed parallel to the Mk2 J/G's. In fact, the Corrado is based on same platform... that's why the VR6 fits so beautifully in a Mk2 Jetta/Golf
