I currently own a 85.5 944. It has a blown head gasket and a valve cover gasket. Since this requires a lot of work I would like to have the whole thing rebuilt. Plus I would like to have all the belts and hoses replaced.

About how much would all this extensive work would cost? I was thinking about just getting a new Porsche and have the 85 towed home. My dad had the idea of turning it into a project, but I'v been looking for a new low mileage 944 for months now and haven't been able to find anything descent. I need to do something quick because my daily driver is very un-reliable.

I'm not sure what to do. The car has some other non-mechanical problems and my 944 has over 130K on it, so sometimes I think its not even worth fixing.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated

Sure its worth it, if you want to have a little fun and some extra cash to blow. I say do it if you have another way getting around.

I know it would be worth if everything went perfect. I worried that when they get in there, there will be some internal damage that will cost more $$$. Then I will be beyond screwed.

Does anybody know about how much work like this will cost??

No way to tell until you get in there and have a look. It's probably worth pulling the head.
