Question power steering problem

ok so when i replaced all my fluids last week i used valvoline synthetic ps fluid, cause the dumbass at advance auto parts told me it was ATF dexron and i was too stupid to realize atf = auto tranny fluid. anyway, now when i take a turn at slow speeds, i get a groaning noise from the steering. is this what i need to do:

1. get auto tranny dexron fluid
2. pull banjo bolt, drain fluid
3. turn steering from side to side
4. put in new fluid
5. turn steering from side to side
6. drive again

let me know if this is the correct way to go about things. thanks!

Yep, drain and refill. The problem is power steering fluid likes to eat away at older OEM seals. If you had a weak seal in the pump that might have pushed it over the edge.
Drain it and refill it and see what happens. The easiest way to drain it is to pull the lower banjo on the pump. After it drains spin the pump by hand a few times. Then spin the wheel side to side to get anything left out of the rack.
After you fill it with the ATF, drive around the block and do this again. This will make sure it all gets out of there.
