Default Instrument needles jump

Lately I have noticed that my instrument needles will jump occasionally.

They don't move far but for example the gas gauge will sag maybe like 1/16" then immediately return to it's original position.

All of my gauges do this.

Does this indicate bad grounds?

I had this occurring and when I replaced the battery it disappeared. Perhaps a weak battery? Maybe put a charger on it and see if it helps. Now that I have the battery maintainer plugged in, the jumpy gauges have not returned.

Ok thanks.

My battery is not so great so maybe that is the source.

Anyone else care to contribute?

Mine behave exactly the same way...the temperature and fuel gauges seem to be the ones that do it. I replaced my battery recently but haven't noticed if it has stopped. I'll update again if I notice anything...

I am thinking that it must be 25 year old wiring or bad grounds.

What say you guys?

Cleaning your grounds is certainly a good place to start - and it's free!

Quickest thing to start with, Clean the battery terminals and check the ground on the top of the bell housing. After that, do the other grounds.

I removed my instrument clusters and fitted additional earth wires. This solved the issue with jumping needles.
