Default just found something that will open up alot of different wheels for us

just spoke to a guy who can make wheel adapters for our bolt pattern. a wheel adapter is like a spacer that can adapt one bolt pattern to another. he can adapt our 5x130 to a 5x112 pattern that is much more common. i'm not sure how the works with offsets and all cause i haven't done the math yet but this opens up alot of new possibilities for wheels. there are many more wheels made in 5x112 than 5x130. just thought you guys might like to know

Andrew ;you are well intentioned ,but the concept is bad. The applied torque requirements figured for a certain size bolt circle are a critical design feature. It is quite possible to literally rip the center section of the rim out of the whole rim.I doubt this would happen on a 944 ,but you certainly would taking a gamble on the wheel nuts loosening or oblonging? the wheel holes. At the least you would play hell with the balance and it would be easier to bend the rim do to more flex.

I had 1" adapters on my 944 for several years. It was abused all the time on the Auto-X track, Nuerburgring, and German back roads.

No problems....

the wheels that i really want to put on the car have actually come up here before - kahn rsr. they're very simple but the design is flawless(to me of course). they make an 18 in our bolt pattern but i wasn't sure if i wanted to go with that, especially since i have new 17" tires that i could just swap over if i bought new 17" wheels

benefits of 18's: no wheel adapter necessary
benefits of 17's: lighter weight, less stress on the car from what i understand

ideally, i would just buy the 17" rsr's in 5x130 but kahn doesn't make them. i'm not really sure why and i wish they did but i've just got to deal with the situation at hand. do you guys think it's a better idea to go with 17's and adapters or 18's direct fit?

Can you get the offset and still succesfully hide the nuts to hold the spacer to the brake disc? You'll lose about 1 1/2" due to the spacer thickness.......

Or 19" wheels !!!

"wheel adapters are bad news"
"por que?"

Because of the load path isn't straight. Also the hidden set of nuts under the wheel can't be checked easily. Some basics on bolted joints: Bolt Science.
