Default Shifter boot on '84 944

The boots retainer was missing when I bought the car. I have been searching ebay every few days for a replacement, 944 and 924, with zero luck finding anything. I have had to search for pictures of the console to even figure out what was originally there...

Was the carpet used as the retainer? Was the rubber boot a 924 only part? Mine looks like complete crap, so I am looking for any info on a solution.

Look on ebay for a "porsche 944 shifter frame". There's one there for $15.

There are two flanges - one for the rubber inner boot and one for the outer leather boot that you actually see in the cabin.

The outer boot is secured with a plastic flange that secures to the center console.

You can see the cutout in the console in the first pic: http://www.ebay.com/itm/251626636365...84.m1559.l2649

This is a pic from my car where you can see both flanges:

You can get them on ebay. I was able to find an early ring for my car. Part number is 477 857 975, it is called a 'support frame' on the early cars and is available in brown or black.
