Default Racer's Edge Brake adapters 86 944 NA

So I've been lurking a lot on here, and over on PP as well, and I've done everything I can to learn all I can about my new project. I just picked up an '86 944 NA that I plan on restoring to it's former glory, and possibly do some autocross with next spring/summer. A V8 swap is a distinct possibility in the future, and I'm looking to start getting the car ready for that, as well. I've searched and searched the brake options on the car, but I have a quick question. I'm still in the planning stages one some things, and I was wondering if anyone had used the Racer's Edge caliper adapter blocks. They list them for my car, saying:

"These adapters allow you to quickly and easily bolt up “Big Red” or “944 Turbo S” front calipers to your car."

Now, I'm new to the porsche world, so can someone tell me exactly what the big red calipers are? I've seen a lot of references to them, and a lot of other styles, but no real explanation what they came on. And also, it also says the 944 Turbo S calipers. Are they the same? Which rotors would these work with?

Thanks in advance!

I just got off the phone with them, they are no longer making the adapters for the NA. I'm looking to go a similar route and thought I would check.

Big Reds were originally delivered on the 993 Turbo. Most of the time they were painted red, but not always.

944 Turbo S brakes are slightly more powerful than normal 944 Turbo brakes.

Yes you'll need that V8 in there to justify those brakes. All that that extra weight will do to your 86na is make it slower.

It's not that big of a weight difference, but I definitely agree bigger brakes are a must.

Plus I've never heard of anyone getting slower after a v8

So, who else sells adapters?

Ah, well, they need to change their website then, it still lists them. Weird. Really just shopping around at the moment, anyway. Don't plan on doing the brakes themselves until, and if, I do the swap. From everything I've read the stock brakes seem to be more than adequate for the stock motor.

Thanks for the info, though, especially the link about the calipers. I've seen several brake adapters made by xschop on here, and the 944hybrids site, but I haven't contacted him yet. Many of his conversions require late offset spindles, which I was trying to avoid for simplicity's sake.

I am too. I have boxster calipers coupled with 84-87 Carerra rotors, I'm waiting on an adapter. I've been talking to a guy that makes them in Canada but I keep getting the run around. They were supposed to be finished last week.
