Question RX-7 daily driver

Yep... I've been looking months for a decent 951 in which I can afford, and I could use as a daily driver without having to worry about hidden problems. I'm at the point where I gave up.. I've found 951's locally from between $4500-6000 but the problem is either the mileage is shady, or the history/service records arent accurate.

I have a friend who owns a decent '86 rx-7. This car has over 150k miles and it's still kicking. All he does is fill gas and it's just as reliable as a brand new honda. I found regular n/a rx-7's but the only problem is I want a damn car with boost! So I started a search for a TII 2nd gen rx and the search hasn't gone anywhere. I can't even find one locally. It's impossible for me to find a car that I want. A opportunity always pops up when I'm not looking for a car. I like the price range of these cars, and the best thing is it's a great car with a turbo!

I was wondering if anyone around the NJ/NYC area has a TII for sale around their area? Or close to it? I can't search by myself, so I'm hoping you guys can help me out here. If anyone knows one for sale, please get to me.

Have you tried www.wantadpress.com ? No turbos on there now, 4 NAs, but it's a pretty good place to find cars around here.

LOL I've tried both sites with no success at all!

I found a guy who recently did the clutch, and rebuilt his engine, selling his n/a for $500. But it's not the turbo.

I recently bought an 87 rex gxl, nice reliable car, but turbo would be nice. I found that TII are nearly impossible to find, but when you find one, its a good bang for the buck. But expect to spend as much money in repairs on the TII as you would w/ a 951, not cheap.

Just don't get a gen III RX-7 as a daily driver. Out of the three years we owned ours it was in the shop 75% of the time. They are plagued with problems, mostly heat related in the engine compartment. Everything under that hood gets fried. Thank goodness it was under warranty at least, but we never got to drive it so one time when it came out of the shop, it immediately went for sale and since most people know about all the problems we took a bath on it. Gen II's seemed to be fairly reliable. I'd still go for the 951 though....

Ya I'd love to take a 951, but the problem is I dont want to buy the 951 and end up dropping another $2000 to fix stuff. I want a car that I will be worry free of for a while. Using it for work, school, and fun. I'm not into buying a lemon of a car, and by the end of the month spending more than I bought the car to fix.

You can spend just as much fixing up an N/A car as a turbo. But, the N/A RX-7's will last a long time if they are treated well. They only require 87octane gas and Castrol 20w50 is the only oil you should use. My original motor lasted to 276,000 miles. The car now has over 300,000 miles and has been the most reliable car I have ever owned. The N/A's are not that fast stock, but with very little money will run mid 15's. The best Turbo RX-7 to own is an 89', but they are very very hard to find. They had 200hp from the factory and will quickly make a bunch more by replacing the exhaust and the airbox. But I rarely see any turbo RX-7 last more than 100-150k miles without a rebuild.
