Default How I refurbished my 951 AFM

Thought I would share what I did to fix my AFM with a worn track, just a slight variant on what I have read. Remove the AFM per any of the great tutorials and remove the cover.

Instead of bending the wiper I did this :
1- remember where the wiper pointer is pointing and remove screw 'A' and lift off the wiper.
2- Remove the 3 screws 'B' that hold the metal plate that the circuit board is mounted to.
3- lift and slide the plate out from under the two pressure contacts
4- take a small file and slot the 3 holes as shown
5- before reassembly, clean the track with alcohol
6 - slide the plate back in under the pressure contacts and install the 3 screws, but dont tighten the screws all the way
7- reinstal the wiper, position it where it was when you removed it and tighten the screw
8- now adjust the position of the plate by sliding it to get and move the wiper back and forth to line the wiper contacts in an unworn path
9. tighten the 3 plate screws, recheck positioning and reinstall.

I found this to give me more control of the ajustment. Worked great for me.

I forgot to mention what forced me to do this was that my wiper was already aligned toward the bottom of the track from the factory. I needed to move it toward the top of the track which would require the wiper to be longer not shorter.

I posted this technique about 10 years ago. I don't know why anybody would bend the wiper arm instead. If you get the pressure of the wiper wrong, you either create erratic behavior or wear out the substrate in short order.

Thanks for reposting.
