Default 2014 Blue Ridge Parkway Cruise

This cruise is open to all, so if you are in the area and your 924/944 is not currently running, it is not a problem. Feel free to invite your friends too!

Also, if you're a 924/944 owner in NC or SC, be sure to join us on facebook.

Facebook Post

We will be meeting beside the Belk at Biltmore Square Mall in Asheville October 19th at noon. We will be taking the Blue Ridge Parkway South for about 50 miles, stopping to take pictures and to chat along the way. Also, we will be stopping for a picnic lunch, so bring a cooler packed with your favorite snacks. Be sure to bring a jacket or dress for cold weather; as we will be reaching elevations of 6000ft.

Once in Waynesville, Interstate 40 is easily accessed for your return home.

For those of you driving in from the east, some of us will be meeting up across from the Denny's at Cleveland Mall in Shelby, NC around 10AM.

From there, we will be traveling up the scenic route. This will take us up hwy 64 through Lake Lure for a quick Mountain run before the event. If you have never been through here before, you are in for a real treat!

Just let us know if you plan on joining us!

Thanks!

I'm up that way quite often and drive that stretch of the BRP regularly. It'll be peak leaf season. So, don't be surprised if y'all encounter a lot of slow traffic and motorcycles. Also, if anyone has time, the drive into Cherokee isn't much further and rewarding too. BTW, there are something like 13 tunnels on that stretch of the BRP. So anyone with an upgraded exhaust should have a touch more fun. :-)

I would like to go, as this would be a nice birthday treat to myself, but I have doubts in my car.

I was up there this weekend and drove this stretch of the BRP both ways. The leaves should be peaking over the next two weeks. There was a lot of traffic this past weekend and they expect it to continue to be high.

Now something funny. For a good while yesterday evening I was following an M5. We both pulled off at the same gas station after exiting the BRP. The guy came over and said to me he couldn't understand why he couldn't shake this SUV behind him. But he got it once he saw I was driving a Cayenne. :-)

I also wanted to mention that since no one is coming at 9AM for breakfast, that I won't be at the Shelby meeting spot till about 10AM. There is a McDonalds in the same parking lot if you want to get breakfast there. Since we are meeting up with another guy on the way up to Asheville, we will need to leave as close to 10 as possible. You can PM me if you want my number so you can text me if you are running behind.

Thanks!

Great seeing everyone today, sorry about bailing early. I had to get back for a few things. I hope the rest of the drive went well. I would love to see some photos.

Here are a few of my pictures taken on the cruise.

The rest can be seen on our facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1284970838308192/

Or in full quality on Photobucket: http://s605.photobucket.com/user/pha...?sort=3&page=1

This was my first time on the Blue Ridge Parkway and it was quite the experience. Awesome views and lots of fun driving.
I think on the next one if we made it more of a half day event we would have a better turnout. Perhaps meeting at 9am at the start of whatever route we choose to drive, having an hour or so meet and greet/ wait for any stragglers. Then doing a drive with some stops for photos along the way and a lunch at the end. Those who are up for more driving could go out and do the route again before heading home, but this way I think we'd get a larger group together and better photo opportunities.

Wish I could have joined y'all but I was in GA over the weekend. Me and my 951 will be carving up that stretch of the BRP this weekend and possibly next weekend too.
