After 6 months of jacking around with a stripped/rounded out fill plug, I got it done today.
Went to the nice guys @ Rippley Muffler Shop here in Houston and had them weld a 10 mm coupling into the damn thing. Had it out in 2 shakes.. Didn't charge anything. Slipped the guy a 10 for the deal.
I had tried JB Weld, Magnum Steel,Epoxy and everything I could find but it took the total welding action to get it done.
Now, when I drained the old gear oil it smelled kinda burned? What's up with that? No telling how old this stuff was or if the PO ever changed it or just screwed up the plug trying.
Anyhow, seems to be a little quieter, and I stuck a magnetic pickup tool in the drain hole and just got a little bit of very fine metal filings out.
I'll sleep better knowing it's done
