Default Shift boot installation

I just put a new shift boot in my car, but the thing doesn't want to fit right. It's the factory replacement piece (I'll get the part number outta the car) but it almost looked too small to fit.

Anyway, after a good bit of persauding, I got the boot to fit under the leather piece, but it's like not even attached to the ****. It's like a **** in a blanket, it doesn't wrap the **** very well.

For those of you who've replaced the shift boot with the factory piece, what kind of glue did you use and how did you make it fit like the piece you took off?

The piece that came out of the car is definately NOT the piece that went in, but it had a 944 part number.

Found that a new shift boot doesn't stay on the bottom very well when the pin and shift linkage have significant wear.
