Default Rubber/Spring-centered clutch "depth"

I noticed upon removing my ready-to-implode rubber-centered clutch this weekend that the depth of that the old clutch disk is alot "higher" than the new one that I ordered. Of course, now I don't have any of the parts in front of me so I'm having trouble visualizing everything, but does this distance matter? The pressure plate has to be clamping down on the top surface, right? I'm thinking that it will just end up requiring adjusting the master cylinder / clutch pedal linkage, but I haven't convinced myself of this yet. Seems like a large distance to compensate for.

A diagram to show you what I'm talking about if my description is lacking...

Rubber - centered

............|| ........ ||
............V ......... V ................Pressure plate pushes on top surface
........____________
.......|____|___|___|
____|____|___|____|____
|________|___|________|

New spring-centered

............|| ........ ||
............V ......... V ................ Top surface is closer to flywheel

.......____|___|_____
____|____|___|____|____
|________|___|________|

Edit - sorry for the ....'s - needed placeholders to get alignment to show up right

The pressure plate does not clamp the hub. It clamps the outter edge where the fiber material is.

As long as the spline area of the replacement clutch disk is the samel length as the worn/broken clutch disk : No Prob-lem-O!

And yes you will want to adjust your clutch linkage.

Geez, that seems so obvious now that I'm sitting here thinking about it. Ok, cool, looks like everything goes back together this weekend!

Thanks.

Have to admit that the big hunk of rubber on the old style clutch disk is a bit discerning.
