I am looking at buying a 1990 S2 Cabriolet. Here is the description as I have not yet seen the car.
Porsche 944 S2 Cabriolet. 76500 Miles. Silver blue, black interior and navy blue top. Power leather seats. Dual Airbag. ABS. Power top. Premium sound. Automatic climate control. Factory alarm. Power windows and mirrors. Kept in garage during winter. Car cover. New tires.Mint condition. Complete service history. All records available More pictures upon request.
I know he has had the timing belts replaced, and water pump is still working.
He is asking $15,000.
Does this seem reasonable? What would reduce the price in you judgement?
Also any leads on Porsche mechanics in the Grand Rapids, west Michigan area?
thanks

Welcome to Rennlist.
Sounds like a nice car. The price is a bit high, but if the car is as advertised then it's not unrealistic. I'd strongly suggest an independent Porsche shop look the car over for a PPI (Pre Purchase Inspection - Note the word PRE). Since you would be paying a premium for a nice example, you need to be sure it's mechanically perfect. Nothing will ruin a day faster than having to dump money into a car you thought was perfect - and paid the extra price to boot.

Toby,
If you have not already checked it out, take a look at the FAQ for the 944's:
FAQ
You can print the applicable sections out for your mechanic, or can create your own list for him to use during the PPI. Hopefully you will be able to find a mechanic with 944 experience, though, and he will know what to concentrate on when performing the PPI.
Good luck,
Tom

The asking price is not high assuming the car was never wrecked, title was never a salvage title, and if there was some bodywork it was minor.
the clutch will set you back 1200 if it needs to be replaced. the leather on the seats should look like new.
the reason i say the price is ok is because i sold a 90 rx7 convertible with 40k in concours condition for 7500 a few months ago. the 944 listed for about twice the price of the rx7. that makes my 7500 in mazda money 15000 in porsche money. now deduct for the extra miles, or conclude porsches dont depreciate like rx7s, etc. you wont get the car for less than 10, so work from there.
the best way to determine fair market value is to start of with comparable sales.
good luck.
