Default Help with Wruths wheel paint

Painting an old set of rims and I have just got my first coat of Wruths on and it looks very flat and almost sandy in appearance. Is this typical or have I done something wrong? Also does this stuff need to be clear coated? Any help or advice would be much appreciated,

Hmmmm... Have you put a primer underneath.... ???

When i painted my 996 wheels, i first used a gray primer, then the Wurth Whell paint, and the 3-4 layer of clear coats.

Be sure to let it dry 1 day between the primer and Wurth, otherwise it can react chemicaly with the primer, and make a non smoth surface. Also dry a day before the clear coats. No sanding between, but 400-1000 grid wetsand before primer.

I just refinished a set of phone dials, but I did not use Wurth's paint.

Anyway, based on my experience, here are some things I would recommend:

--primer before color

--after applying two good coats of color and allowing to dry for a couple of hours or overnight, try wet-sanding with 1500 or 2000-grit sandpaper. Do it just enough to get a super smooth surface. The color may look a little dull after the sanding, but the clear coat will make it shiny. It's a little scary when you see how the sandpaper dulls things a bit, but trust me, the clear coat brings it back.

Cheers,

Mark

Ok I did use a good lacquer primer underneath. HOWEVER I did not wait 24 hours so I suspect that is the problem. The rim is at this very moment sitting in my oven at 150 degrees as this morning the paint was still slightly tacky to the touch. I suspect that the primer was still wet. I will let it dry out and go get some 1500 grit sand paper and see if I can save this mess.
