actually that is not quite true,
well yes it is.
Valmet made one c70, or at least a electrical roof to it.
They wanted to show their professionalism to the world and especially to the car industry, that here in Finland we have a high standards in "makin things"..

Well hell, we make Porsche's here..

ok.. time to put the myth to rest.

im pretty sure Volvo does make the C70's there assembled in the Uddevalla plant in northern sweden.

http://www.swedespeed.com/news/1999/...7_26_99_3.html

here's a link talking about the car... the only car that volvo produced that doesnt have original swedish influence as of now is the S40's/V40's ? there based off of a mitsubishi i thought.

aren't all saabs manufactured in finland even though they're originally from sweden... they even still claim swedish design.. how can you claim swedish design when you were first thought up in a place called Trollhaten !

??? My S2 does not have a ZMN nor a ZMS, I think that theory is bogus.

What is your vin? It has to be one of the aforementioned.

How's the driver's side door S2?

The C70 was made by a company called Novotech (or something similar!). Based in Uddevalla, it was a joint venture between TWR (of Jaguar fame), Volvo, and Renault. The factory was originally owned by Renault (when they thought they were going to buy Volvo), but the deal fell through, so Volvo and TWR effectively rented the premises from Renault.

There were three companies who worked on the convertible. Valmet did one concept, Bertone did another, and TWR did another. I wonder who got the job.....?

The factory is now fully owned by Volvo after TWR's little financial hiccup, but production is coming to an end (or may even be finished??).

You mean Trollhatten, Sweden???? All Saabs were manufactured in Sweden, except for certain parts common with the GM Vectra floorpan.

Mike, they made few Saabs here in Finland between 1968-2003

All convertibles were made here in Finland. Now convertible production is in Austria.

The following Saab models have been made by Valmet: 90, 95, 96, 99, 900, 9000 including convertibles, turbos, limos & all other special models. They have never made convertibles or limos in Sweden. Opel Vectra floorpan models 900, 9 3 & 9 5 models were never made in Finland (except convertibles)

BTW most Saab 900's sold in USA were made in Finland !

Your car should have ZLN, given that it's a MY1990 car and not a MY1991. Try looking at the chassis number on the front side of the battery tray. That's the factory VIN. The number on the window pillar and title is the serial number assigned for PCNA cars only. If you look closely, you will see that different codes are substituted for the zeds, but the N (or S) should still be there in the 11th space.

it was under my impression that the Uddevalla plant was built in the 80's by VOLVO, but i found out it had been closed later on as volvo sales had taken a slide and it was the least financially productive plant. its now sole purpose is to build C70's at a much lower rate, it is under my impression that they are all handmade as well. You are correct though that it is a joint effort made by TWR, they contribue engineering and management where as Volvo provides the previously closed plant and the basic floorpan for the cars design.

TWR stands for Tom Wakinshaw Racing btw.
