Still no power to 86 pin at the DME. I bypassed the alarm, by closing the relays, and installed the bypass alarm bypass at the fuse box. I ran a jumper from the ignition relay and put 12v to 86 on the DME relay. I got power at the ECU and spark but now injectors wont open. Any thoughts? I found 2 wires under the dash near the ignition switch.
also on connector near the ECU with 2 wires brown and brown/white.

I swapped DME relays, ignition switches, speed sensors. Still no power to the 86 at the DME.
I checked the alarm, I have power at 1,2 at the small connector when I close the relays inside, and 3,1,5,7 (I think) when with or without the relays inside closed.
I have power at the alarm relay and swapped the relay with factory bypass.
I ran a wire from the ignition relay to get 12v to the DME so I can get power the relay via the switch and I can get spark and fuel pump but still no power at the injectors. My 951 gets power at the injectors with the ignition on.
If the wires were crossed or melted somewhere then I should get power where I shouldnt.
I swapped the ECU with another S2 and it works.
I swapped starters and checked grounds at engine and chassis.
HELP!!! Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
I get power at the air flow meter, igniter,
Its a 1990. Where does the power come from to the injectors?

ITS ALIVE!!!
The parts car is a 1990 but it had the 89 engine with ballast resistors I saw the plug but thought it was for the cruise control. I put the ballast resistor on then it would fart and would not stay running on 2 cylinders.
I pulled the injectors got them cleaned. There was some rust in fuel rail. Put in a borrowed alarm control unit and BAM!! Its running. Now for straightening out the wiring harness, SS brake hoses, fender paint and swap. I am pushing to finish all by the end of this year.
Rennlist has been a great resource....

Now that it is running another issue arose. Seems it needs torque tube bearing. I`m tired and its getting too cold to work outside at night. I`m gonna wait till my energy is back. Engine does sound sweet.

Having a hell of a time bleeding the cooling system. The more I run the car the less noisy the TT bearings become.

Now that the S2 is almost done gonna focus on the red 951. What to do with the interior? I screwed up the interior when I tried to dye it.
I hated what the previous owner did:

Red, white, black and beige.

Dyed/painted black

Black topped blue sun damaged rears

and my hand stitched fronts

My hand sewing..

Thinking of ditching the rears and going for a track car/club sport look.

Gonna take my time to do the torque tube bearings. After doing this the bearings seem easy. Looking for a next project. Possibly a 928. I have tonnes of 944 parts so it would be nice to use them.
I drove the S2 a bit. It is so refined compared to the 951. But which to keep? I prefer the 951 but I dont like red. Possible repaint to black....

back on the job.. dropped the exhaust on Tuesday night at -2 degrees in 1 hour. Wednesday I removed the torque tube in 3 hours. Another hour to removed the bearings then 5 hours modifying the rivets to re-assemble the bearing holders. That was tedious. Next up re-assembly!

Smile Torque Tube

Dear RuFob: I've been working on my '83 944, and am getting ready to pull the TT. I can understand all the bearings and stuff, but what are the 4 delrin spacers for? Apparently they must turn with the shaft, because of their tight fit on it...BTW..you must be one helluva mechanic to do all that you do, so quickly...maybe it's just the read on your site and the great pics! Thanks, Tiger 03447.

Thanks. I appreciate the comments. Sometimes I forget people read what I wrote. I just did this job twice before so no rusty bolts and nuts. That helped. The bushing is what keeps the bearings in place on the shaft. The bearing are in holder surrounded by a rubber ring that holds its in position in the tube. I am about the put the tube back together but I cant decide on how to do it. There are at least 3 ways according to the research I have done. I think I will install the 2 middle ones first then the rear, then the front. I worry the bearings will move in the tube when I install it.

Bearing done!! much easier than I thought.
Here is a magical tip. Instead of hammering in the shaft, I stood the tube on it head, ie. engine end with the shaft protruding on a floor jack and lifted until it hit the ceiling I beam and pushed the shaft in that way. Then wrapped the end carefully and used gravity to tap in the last few inches.
Dish washing liquid on the rubbers and WD40 on the shaft.
Sorry no photos of that exercise.

After damaging 1 bearing during the install, replacing it and moving to a new house, a month later I could finally reassemble the car. It always seems so tough when before and during, then after it seems not so bad. Now the car is so smooth and quite. Torque tube, new SS rear brake hoses, missed re-circulation flap vacuum hose done. The last things are glove box hinges and figure out why the fog light dont work and paint and install the side moldings. They work on high beam and flashing but not from the switch. Then the hard choice.Which the sell, the S2 or the 951.

Fog lights done, glove box done. Next find out why the oil light stays on.
