Question Adding a rear sway bar to my '86?

My '86 944 NA is without a sway bar in the rear (optional through '87, I think). What do I need to get in order to add one? Drop links, the two mounts, bunch of bushings? I'm looking at an eBay bar that, I think, has everything (I'd want to get new bushings, of course).

Not in the best shape, but neither is the front sway bar...

Finally, is there a write-up about installing a rear sway bar on a 944 that came without one? Drilling needed, or is there a mounting place ready for it?

Thanks!

I have a 14mm rear sway, can't find the mounts or bushings though. PM if interested.

There are mounting tabs on the torsion bar carrier. You won't need to do anything except bolt it on. Sausagehacker and I have everything you need to add a rear bar to your car. We only have a 14mm bar though, which is stock for your car, if you're interested. I'm pretty sure I have the mounts, bushings, and drop links.

We will gladly beat the eBay price too.

EDIT: just confirmed, I have everything you need. Shoot me a PM and we can make a deal.

Bear in mind that the rear sway bar came from Porsche with a matching front sway bar, that is a larger bar than you currently have. It is important to balance the springing front and back. Adding just the rear bar will lead to oversteer.

What size would the matching front sway bar be? According to Clark's (p. 6 at the below link), there was one size front bar (20 mm) and one size optional rear bar (14 mm).

Thanks!

Thanks! I'll take you up on it-- just need to make sure I've got everything straight before I buy it.

Great, no problem. I've also got a 21.5mm front sway that would match the rear, I can throw it in for a good price if you're interested. You most likely have the 20mm bar up front. The 21.5 and 14 rear came together from the factory and would be a nice upgrade for you.

Got 'em (long ago), still haven't installed 'em. Turns out one of the bracket mount bolt holes has got some bad threads. Haven't bothered to chase them, etc.
