coolant leaks out of the overflow tube...why?

The cap is on its way and I will bleed the system.

Just had the same over heating problem with my son's 87 944 Turbo. Turned out to be a bad radiator cap (after market). The dealer cap solved the problem. The after market cap was around 1mm too short and caused the coolant to go out the overflow
