What color to paint S2 cam cover?
I'm going to paint and detail the S2's engine this winter and I need an opinion from the masses.
The car is blue so doing the Porsche lettering in red may not look good.
I have a pic of a really nice engine in a red car and changed it to blue with a little photoshop help.
Do you think this will look good?

I'm thinking the same ... silver or gunmetal might work very nicely, then blue lettering and if you feel like it, blue plug wires! I can almost picture it in my head... blue/black doesn't look bad either, but it's definately not as striking as red/black IMHO

The blue/black looks a little cold to me but I think it would look better with a silver/aluminum color cam cover. I can't figure out how to change just the color of the cam cover in P-shop. I keep changing all the black parts.
I do like the cam sprocket cover in blue.

If you do the black, I would do the intake manifold as well, it would add to the look, I did my intake manifold and cam housing and I like the look, it cleans up evertying under there....
Actually that would be for any color you do, just having things be unform is always nice.

Well my car is black so the cover is black with silver lettering and it looks good. Here's an old pic of it before I went through and cleaned everything up. and repainted some things, but you get the idea.

It's funny how timely this board can be... I was literally heading out the door to the machine shop to have my '90 S2's cam cover bead blasted when I read this!
My car is alpine white and I was planning to do the cover in black powdercoat (Or maybe that mirror black stuff) with either red, white, or gold lettering (haven't decided yet). I too would love to hear the opinions before I have to live with it!
As far as the black/blue combo goes... I like it!
Are you painting or powdercoating?

Painting for now. That way if I want to change it I can strip the paint and start over. If I like how it comes out I'll powdercoat it in the future.
Maybe the cover would look good in anthracite w/ blue lettering.

On my Cabrio, I had the head apart and the cam cover paint was cracking badly. I stripped it with Aircraft stripper (worked like a charm) and repainted it with silver engine paint. I did not go for looks but more for protection. Black might have been a better choice in retrospect, but I laid the silver on so it would be somewhat dull. Now that it's a bit dirty it does not look out of place.
