The type of galvanized used by Porsche in the late 70's early 80's was not nearly as good as that used in North America. As such they had to do a lot of hand sanding to get a good finish. I had an 84 with a small chip on the driver's door. It turned into red rust in about 2 weeks. The car was about 3 months old with 2000 miles. The factory had done enough hand prep work to remove the zinc from the surface.
