Exclamation Help!!

I replaced my AFM last night and now the car will not idle.

It tries to idle around 900 but stumbles and knocks, the lights dim, and the oil pressure gauge jumps all over.

Before I replaced the AFM it would idle 1200-1800. I know thats high but my mechanic had to set it that high due to problems with the AFM.

This is on an 87S, so I don't think you can adjust the idle. I think the mechanic just adjusted the AFM.

So with a new AFM why would it not idle.

Thanks in advance for any help.

It sounds like a vacuum leak or the wiring connector isn't on tight.

Sounds like the idle stabilizer valve.

I know the idle stabilizer valve works, because when I unplugged it the engine revs higher.

The connectors tight.
I don't think it's a vacume leak. I did not have this problem before I replaced the AFM.

There was a post a while back about someone's mercedes m-class that needed a new afm. The dealership wanted to charge him three hours of labor even though it only takes half an hour to exchange the part. The general concensus was that the extra labor time was needed to adjust the afm. Sorry but I don't know how one would go about adjusting an afm.
