Default Noisy CV, replace or repack?

I have a noisy CV joint, pretty sure it is the inside drivers side joint, making a clunking/chunking sound under load (accel and decel). No noise when out of gear and coasting or under steady conditions (not accelearating or deaccelarating). I ordered a new joint from Pelican but am wondering if a repack is in order instead.

Anyone repack a noisy joint with any success? Right now I am planning on repacking the outside joint and replacing the inside one. Does that make sense.

TIA

Can't hurt to try, but I would replace unless you don't mind keeping a close eye on it. Not much downside risk, just worse noise as time goes by.

try swapping driveshafts with the CV's side to side - left for right and vice versa. some people claim it works - directional rotation

If you're going to take the trouble to pull it out, may as well replace with new ones, as far as I'm concerned. It kind of depends on how many miles are on the existing ones, I guess.

I had intended to repack mine when I pulled them. Once I got a look at how loose they'd become, not to mention the galling in the bearing races, I just replaced them. I can't express the peace of mind I enjoy knowing I'm not driving around with axle grenades waiting to go off.
