The new AMC series "Halt and Catch Fire" (Sundays 10pm) features a shiny new 1983 Porsche 944. Series is about the then burgeoning computer market. The main characters car is a then new 1983 Porsche 944. In the opening scene he runs into an Armadillo and it gets lodged in his grill. The 944 plays a pretty prominent role in the series opener. Looks like it may be a pretty good series. AMC does have a great track record.

A new Porsche in 83, and a computer startup - I hope it doesn't end up like Fountain Computer (I think that's the name) going public in around 83.

It looks to me like it's going to be a fictionalized version of compaq ripping off the IBM pc and prining their own computer to market. Anyone else notice the balance belt on the car in the show sounded like it was running too tight?

Watched it tonight - thanks!
Beyond 944s, the best book on the wild west of computing is The Soul of a New Machine about the launching of a new system at Data General in the early 80s.
