Howdy.
I am resurecting a 92 968. engine going back together and found wiring in the harness from the alternator to starter has the insulation completely deteriorated. So, before I dump a bunch more $$, I want to rewire, just this section.
I have the workshop manuals, but no wiring diagrahms.
Any help is appreciated.
thnx

I would think stock is 12 or 14 gauge, personally? if i was going to rewire i would go to 10 or 8 gauge and run it outside the harness. 10 or 8 might be overkill but it won't be stressed at all when the alternator is at full output.
EDIT: misread, thought it was alternator to battery for some reason, my reading comprehension is full of fail today.

You need to track down the wiring diagrams. They are in the shop manuals. You need sheet 5 which is the engine compartment wiring.
Note - they list the wire sizes by area in square mm. Google will find a conversion table from area to wire gauge sizes.
There's only two wires that run to the alternator. A heavy black (16mm) runs from B+ directly back to the starter and connects with the main positive battery cable. This feeds power back to the battery. The other wire is small (1mm) black that runs to the D+ terminal which provides field excitation to the alternator.
