Fuel pump?

I own an 83 944, for the past few days there have been times when the car just wouldn't start, one of the times I was driving and it just completely died but the battery isn't dead, it turns over it just won't start, it has been happening after I drive it. I'll get
Home and then go back out an hour later and it won't start. I cleaned up the battery terminals to see if it helped and tried to clean the grounds but nothing helps it just keeps doing it. I think maybe the fuel pump is bad or the fuel pump relay or fuse is bad, I'm not sure. Does anyone have any advice?

Definitely check the relay first. You can just wrap a paperclip around terminals 2, 4, and 8 then plug it back in to make it home. Just make sure to unjumper it so the fuel pump doesn't kill your battery. You should also check the fuel pump fuse (#2 in the upper fuse bay). If the car always starts when cold but then dies when warm it could be your fuel pressure regulator. If it fails fuel pressure can build up and the injector circuit overheats.

Its back by the fuel tank on the right side of the car. Definitely check the fuse, my 924S wouldn't run once after an autocross because it blew the fuse on the side. I couldn't see it just by looking at it as it went in a weird spot, didn't notice until I actually pulled the fuse.

Much easier on an early car (<85.5) to put in a spare DME relay than to do the jumpering. That power panel is NOT easy to access, to say the least. Make note of which way the old one comes out, so you can put the new one in the correct orientation the first try.
