Question Measuring Sway Bar Diameter

I need a new inner sway bar bushing, but there are two listed for my car, a 21.5mm and a 26.8mm. How would one come to measuring the bar they have currently? I am using a string around the larger portion the bar, and then measuirng and converting and such, and I get to 26.7mm. If I'm not mistaken, would that larger bar be the M030? I really didn't think I had that option???

Well if my measuring technique is correct, my rear bar is 18mm, which really points towards the car having the M030 option?? Anybody?

Use a micrometer. Available at sears, home depot, pep boys ect. Or you can allways just measure the circumference with a flexable measureing tape and divide that by pi.

I encountered the same problem when ordering the "Welt" bushings for my 923. Since the 923 never came with a rear anti-sway bar I could not reference any factory specs (the unit came off of a unknown 911 donor). I used the above method to obtain the answer...

Well, according to Paragon's website (www.tech-session.com), you either have a (I take it this is front only...)

1. Standard 21.5mm
2. M404 option 25.5mm
3. M030 option 26.8mm

Check on the inside of the rear panel for the option label, and see if you have either of those numbers listed. If you do, then you're probably relatively sure. If not, then it could be that someone has changed it. Measure it right, and you're OK. BTW, from the looks of it you may have M030

Unfortunately I can't seem to find the option code label in the location it is suppose to be, so that is out. I measured it a few times and keeps coming out as the 26.8mm bar.. Judging by the past owners, I don't think they would have put the M030 front and rear sways on..

use an adjustable crescent wrench. close it gently around the bar. then measure the gap.

open the boot, pull down the flap covering the rear panel, and look just next to where ther boot lock motor is (sort of the 'other side' of the keyhole) Check out this post : https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...ghlight=option to see the label you are looking for.

It is definitely not back there, or I'm blind. I pulled the back apart looking everywhere.. Perhaps the only option at this point is for me to get the report from the PCA from my VIN number..

Sounds like you had a similar experience to mine. Saw that my RF bushing was starting to go bad because of excessive oil exposure. Checked my option codes - no mention of any suspension upgrades. I ordered the 21.5mm bushing because that seemed to be the 'stock' option and there was no rear bar on the car so I figured I had the stock front bar. Well, I figured wrong because the bushing I got was WAY too small for my front bar. Measured it and it turned out to be the 26.8mm M030 option bar!! I was SO stoked to find out I had it, but I still didn't have a bushing to replace the worn out one (easily fixed that). It is curious however that whomever put in the upgraded front bar didn't see fit to install a rear one. Things that make you go hmmmmm...

My son's car came that way too when we bought it. Front 26.8mm bar, no rear. Given it has 192K mi, who know who/when it was swapped out, it definitely does not have any special suspension codes on the label.
