I'm taking all of them off. I may replace them after the car's painted but I haven't decided yet. I'll figure it out then.

Oh yeah...forgot you have to eventually re-paint the whole car. You really need them, as shown by how beat-up the guards get. If that was your fresh paint...it would be a mess.

I've seen white 911's with black guards...that would look cheesy on a 944, right?

I've talked to a few guys who left them off and never had any issues with paint damage or chips. Perry951 didn't put them on his, so I'll see how his holds up over time.

Black guards on a white 944 would look lousy IMHO.

I put on some OEM stoneguards recently. The shape was not the same as the one I took off! Kind of disappointing, but it's impossible to tell when it's on.

I think I'd get aftermarket...they make more see-thru ones with the 3m film. The OEM's are more opaque...ie, visable.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! I got the paint from Paintscratch.com, and the stone guards from Perry 951. Soon my 951 will look like new! Ok, well, it'll look better anyway.

I got the really ugly stone guard off tonight along with the pinstripe. The stone guard didn't put up too much of a fight but it took some clearcoat with it. Luckily the previous owner gave me a can of matching touch up paint and it covered it very well. It looks much, much better now. I still have a lot of adhesive residue from the pinstripe to remove but I'll hit that tomorrow.
The paint did such a nice job that I'm thinking of doing the driver's side door with it. That door is very dull and anything would be an improvement at this point. This is all a temporary fix until the car gets a real paint job.

Someone on the Rennlist classifieds has them for $60some and have been up there for quite a while so they must not suck.
