Default 944 turbo cooling pump question

Can I bypass the turbo cooling pump with a hose until I get the new one. Thanks!!! First time on the site and a new owner of a 1989 944 turbo. Lot of work but I love the car

Yes you can. It only runs after shutdown to help cool the turbo.

However, if it is leaking, you can replace the O-ring in the pump itself with a generic hardware store unit.

If the pump itself is not working, there's a Mercedes heater pump available for a reasonable price that you can swap over the connector from your stock unit and get it all working again.

Some searching will yield more details on those solutions.

Hope this helps!

Thanks! Noticed mine was leaking as I was replacing the oil pan gasket. Took it apart and the insides were in about ten little pieces.

Just let the car idle for a minute or two if you were on boost alot. This will let the turbo cool off and prevent oil coking on the turbo shaft.

Is there any thing other than the head gasket that you can think of the would cause high pressure in the water system before I tear into that issue
